LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT, Mike Bowman
As we head into the Summer season, things are heating up at SONA.  Our off-duty program has been a huge success.  We have received many positive reports from residents who have come in contact with the patrol or had the patrol respond to some of their needs.

This is comforting news given the County's recent public safety budget cuts. Sheriff McGinness recently stated, "We are no longer proactive at all. Our operation is overwhelmingly reactive. We get the call after something horrible has happened. We do the best we can to pick up the pieces." Unfortunately this is the state of affairs these days.

In the wake of these recent cuts, private security arrangements like SONA has with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Off-Duty Patrol Program will be the only guarantee of consistent law enforcement presence in our neighborhood.  For those who have not yet joined SONA this year, you will find a membership form enclosed.  Please fill it out and support the Sierra Oaks community today!  If you have already joined, find a neighbor who hasn't and encourage them to join in our efforts!

Speaking of neighborhood support, you will find a breakdown of SONA membership by street. Congratulations to Harber Court!  Every household on Harber is a SONA member.  Harber is the only street in Sierra Oaks with this distinction so far.  See what you and your street are doing to support the security of our neighborhood through SONA membership. If you are interested in helping to recruit new members, walk some newsletters or membership forms around, please send an email to contactus@sierraoaksneighborhood.org or call Elizabeth Shults at 712-0742.

Also enclosed is information about our upcoming Spring Membership meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 25 at Sierra Oaks School from 7pm to 9pm and SONA's Annual Potluck Picnic to be held at Oak Meadow Park on Sunday June 13th from 4pm to 7pm. These are both great opportunities to meet some of your fellow Sierra Oaks neighbors and learn more about our community.  Hopefully we will see you at both events!

Remember, SONA is here to represent you and our community!

MEMBERSHIP, Elizabeth Shults-Chair
The SONA membership drive for 2010 is well underway.  We would like to express our thanks to the many families who are supporting SONA this year as well as Sacramento Country Day School and the Echo Leonetti Trust, with offices on Drake Circle and Fair Oaks Boulevard, who joined SONA as associate members.  On behalf of everyone in our community, thank you for making a financial contribution to the safety and security of our neighborhood.

Your support is essential for SONA to continue providing special security patrols by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department off-duty officers in our neighborhood.
We hope to encourage even more of our neighbors to support SONA’s effort to ensure Sierra Oaks remains the safe and beautiful neighborhood we all enjoy.  The more members we have the more patrols we can finance at the least cost.  So join today!  Please find your 2010 membership application enclosed in this newsletter.  The same form can also be found on this website
.

We will soon be recruiting neighborhood coordinators in an effort to help communicate the good things SONA is doing and to encourage even more of our neighbors to support SONA’s efforts. If you are interested in helping to encourage your neighbors to join SONA, please send an email to
contactus@sierraoaksneighborhood.org or call Elizabeth Shults at 712-0742.
